Kathrine Nichols is fighting two simultaneous legal battles. The Justice and Protection Alliance is beside her in both.

In addition to her federal sex trafficking lawsuit against the Kingston Group — see Kathrine Nichols v. The Order (Case No. 2:25-cv-00051) — she is also pursuing annulment and custody proceedings against her former husband, Daniel Charles Kingston. He is her uncle by blood and the son of Kingston Group leader Paul Elden Kingston.

Two Cases, One Survivor

The federal case challenges the Order as an institution — its leaders, its organizations, and the businesses that created and sustained the conditions that led to her marriage. The annulment and custody case is personal. It is about dissolving a union she alleges was coerced from the start, and protecting the children of that union.

These two legal tracks are not separate. One addresses the system. The other addresses the individual harm. Both matter.

JPA’s Role

JPA provides legal coordination for both proceedings through pro bono attorney Roger Hoole. Kathrine’s situation illustrates something JPA understood from the beginning: survivors do not need one kind of legal help. They need support across every dimension of leaving — civil litigation, federal trafficking claims, and family law, all running at once.
