# Sarah Johnson — Missing Child

Sarah Johnson grew up in the FLDS Church and left the faith as an adult. She has
described leaving as “jumping off a cliff and not knowing if your parachute’s going
to open.” Her son has been missing since March 9, 2021. She believes his disappearance
was orchestrated by FLDS members following Warren Jeffs’ edicts from prison. As 
of April 2023, he had been gone for over 830 days.

## What the Case Involves

Sarah has appeared at public press conferences, spoken with media, and worked with
attorney Roger Hoole to pursue legal action against the FLDS members she believes
are hiding her son. Police initially told her they could not do much about what 
appeared to be a runaway case. Hoole and other advocates have argued forcefully 
that these disappearances are coordinated acts of child trafficking and kidnapping,
facilitated by the FLDS organization acting on Jeffs’ ongoing directives from a 
federal prison cell.

Law enforcement’s initial reluctance to treat these cases as kidnappings — rather
than runaways — has been a consistent obstacle for these families. Advocates, attorneys,
and the Utah Attorney General’s office have all been drawn into the broader effort
to push for a criminal response.
